Food-grade beeswax

Beeswax has many uses in the manufacture, preservation and packing of food.
Its hydrophobic nature makes them ideal as a release agent for producing products such as pastries or confectionery but it can also be used to create coatings and glazing products for chocolate and fruits. If a protective coating is required, beeswax is a good and natural choice which has been used for thousands of years because it can be formulated to produce a barrier which is both functional and attractive, for example in cheese coating waxes.

In the European Union, beeswax is authorized as food additive E901 in white or yellow. It is permitted as a glazing agent on confectionery (excluding chocolate), small products of fine bakery wares coated with chocolate, snacks, nuts and coffee beans and for the surface treatment only of certain fruits (fresh citrus fruits, melons, apples, pears, peaches and pineapples). It is also permitted in food
supplements and as a carrier for colours.

Additionally, beeswax can be used as a food contact material if it complies with the requirements set out in Regulation (EU) 1935/2004. Since there is no material-specific legislation for contact materials made from beeswax, it must be verified that the beeswax used as a contact material does not contain pesticides or adulteration.

We can offer beeswax for human consumption in accordance with E901 and Regulation (EG) No. 396/2005 in both yellow and white color in the form of pastilles as well as the necessary documentation for use as a contact material.
